Spark of Life exists to instill hope that, though life can never be the same after loss, life can be rich and fulfilling. We do this by offering Grief Recovery Retreats to those who have experienced loss, Grief Recovery Workshops for churches and businesses, and AfterCare Programs for Funeral Homes.
Spark of Life Grief Recovery Retreats
These retreats are given as a gift to all who come. There is no charge – all one has to do is get there. The retreats begin on Thursday at 6:30 P.M. and conclude on Sunday around 2:30 P.M.
The founders of Spark of Life have experienced the journey from loss to life, from grief to grace. We know the journey is difficult and full of pain and confusion. We also know this journey to hope is possible. We invite you to visit us as we all travel this road of grief.
As of December 2016, Spark of Life has conducted 70 retreats serving 982 people. Participants have come from 38 states, Nigeria, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Australia. Retreats have been held in Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Colorado, Montana, Connecticut, Virginia, Minnesota, and Alaska. Retreats are limited to around 16 participants, and are open to all adults 18 years and older.
The retreats begin on Thursday night and conclude on Sunday around noon, with the exception of two Alaska retreats in June and August of 2017. The second Alaska retreat in June begins on Friday, June 23, and ends on Monday, June 26 at noon. The second retreat in Alaska in August begins on Friday August 18 and ends at noon on Monday, August 21.
Spark of Life Grief Recovery Workshops
Grief Workshops are conducted at churches and businesses, and are adapted to meet specific needs. We have conducted over 25 Grief Workshops serving over 4,000 people. Please call David Mathews at 501-230-3007 for more information.
My wife Amanda and I attended a Spark of Life Grief Recovery Retreat in 2014 after the tragic death of her parents. I cannot say enough about how much the retreat helped us; not only did it give us tools with which to work through our grief, it also provided us with a caring community of support and encouragement.
In the months that followed, we asked David Mathews, co-founder and executive director of Spark of Life, to come to Highland Hills and conduct a Saturday-Sunday Grief Recovery Workshop for our community. Many people from both our community as well as our church came on Saturday – then David spoke at both of our Sunday services. The Spark of Life Grief Recovery Workshop has helped our church not only to reach out to our community in a powerful way, but it has also helped us minister to those grieving in our church.
