Just got home from Spark of Life retreat #55. I have served in ministry for 40 plus years. I have served with many leaders, but none as authentic, none as gifted with people, none with such servant heart, humble as Dave Mathews.
There are only a few leaders that I would jump on their leadership bus again if they asked me.
I have been around many blocks in ministry and most ministries are not that healthy, most are toxic.. Dave and his wife/partner friend, equally as gifted, hosted 19 people this weekend at a Spark retreat. A mom and dad that lost their son, a mom and sister lost her son to suicide, a wife grieving as her husband was unfaithful, I could go on and on with their loss stories.
Our courageous guests do not know one another when they walk in Thursday night, but by Sunday, their is transformation, love, hope, learning to live forward. These retreats reflect the heart and tenderness of Christ. Tears, oh my, but such a sweet spirit in this place. Dave and Deb enter quickly into our participants lives, journey, pain like they have known them for a lifetime. They balance love, truth, humor, care, teaching, sharing their own pain as well.. They represent Christ with such humility.
Dave and Deb are not perfect, Dave is a Longhorn fan, and that means Deb is married to a Longhorn fan. I still love them. So when the retreat is over, Dave and Deb do not go to their room and relax. They clean, they do dishes, they move furniture, take out trash, do laundry, they serve with a gracious heart. I love our little team, we work hard to out serve each other, give a lot of grace to one another, care for each other, and work hard.
For those of you that invest financially in Spark, it is like no other ministry I have served with and and I can tell you your investments are changing lives, Thank You!
Right now, a huge thank you to Dave and Deb.
