Repelling, no thank you! This adventure was not for me. My boys have done repelling, and as a dad I was not real excited. However, once I learned they were climbing down cliffs I wanted to make sure they were receiving instructions from the best. I also wanted to confirm they had the right equipment. Most importantly that the all-important rope was not frayed or worn, that it really was a “Good Rope.”
We just completed a Spark of Life Gala in Denver last Saturday night and it was a great success. The decorations were incredible, the food was good and the hotel staff was at their best. We had a wonderful Denver committee that worked hard to pull off this event. That evening there were many in the ballroom who have experienced devastating loss. A mom and wife who lost her teenage daughter to an illness, only to later lose her husband to suicide. A mom whose two children were murdered. A sweet young lady who lost her dad. The stories never end. This is the heart of Spark of Life – coming along-side those whose lives have been forever changed because of a tragic loss. Loss is no respecter of persons. We could all be just one phone call away from it.
At Spark of Life, we not only have a “Good Rope”, we have good ROPEHOLDERS. These are our donors who secure their position at the top of a mountain, grab on tightly to the rope and gently lower our Spark Retreat participants down to find solid footing again. If, I may, they not only lower them down, they lift them up in prayer. Each one of our guests is prayed for individually.
On that scary descent down, we find very courageous people – now over 1,100 – who have entrusted their lives and especially their hearts to a group of people above and below. When they have reached the bottom they all quickly begin to realize they are loved, valued, cared for; and there are tools for them to learn how to LIVE FORWARD. I remember meeting a mom who had driven her daughter to a Spark Retreat in Alaska. Her daughter had recently lost her husband. The mom looked at me and said, “Thank you. I could tell in the first two minutes of meeting the Spark Team she was in good hands. We had no other place to turn, thank you.”
Spark could not do this ministry without our “ROPEHOLDERS.” Public companies have stockholders that are hoping for a financial return on their investments. Our ROPEHOLDERS are only seeking to partner with a ministry whose heart is to GIVE HOPE, THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE!
Thank you to all our ROPEHOLDERS. Your prayers and financial gifts are greatly needed and much appreciated. SPARK OF LIFE HAS AMAZING ROPEHOLDERS, THANK YOU!
For those of you in Arkansas, we will be hosting our Little Rock Gala on Thursday, October 19th. Pease join us as we continue to ask Him to expand the boundaries and ministry of Spark of Life. Please CLICK HERE to register for this Gala. We need more ROPEHOLDERS.
